WELCOME TO

Korai Uji is a small aqueous sphere alone in its solar system. With a radius of around 1,400 miles and an orbital period of just 88 days, each Korainian cycle is equivalent to 1.2 earth years. Korai Uji's perfectly sunny climate and deep starry nights make it an otherworldly picturesque planet; and with such good fortune, it’s no wonder why the Korainian inhabitants have come to believe in The Universe all around them.

the island of

UJI

After a series of natural disasters forced all Korainians on the planet to abandon their Mother Isles in search of stability, the sloped and rocky risen land of Uji was the only candidate remaining. A nation created by the combined efforts of three colonies (the Whitescales of Mountu, the Redscales of Sandya and the Blackscales of Volcanis) the cliff-edged island just under 70 miles long is home to the entire population of the planet.

If in a sing-song mood, a well-known Early Schooling rhyming song retells the tale of Uji in a memorable refrain.

A BRIEF HISTORY ON

THE ISLand OF UJI

FROM IN THE WATER PART I:
My Geography of Uji classes had taught me The Colony Outlands, the first settlements on Uji, were initially organised into territories for each kind of scale. After the collaborative Tribe Tribunal between those settlements fell to territorial disputes in 89BL, a Whitescale named Ino Taka brokered peace to end The War for Uji. His peaceful tribe declared the land they inhabited as a neutral territory for all scales, and over many cycles that land became The Mainland we have today.
The cycles Before Law aren’t well documented, but orally the stories are kept alive. From 411BL when disaster struck the Mother Isles, to the arrival of the first settlers on Uji in 251BL, including The Last Battle for Uji in 89BL amongst tribe leaders, and The Barren Times that followed; threatening the existence of all Korainian life with an 80 cycle bout of mass infertility.

After the glow phenomenon's staving off of extinction, and The Mainland Government's pledge to protect the phenomenon through law, the Government continued to record the progress of The Mainland. In modern day, a Law History lecture is sure to teach future generations of the Waves of Confirmation that followed, and the successful guidance that has safeguarded the planet’s population to the current cycle of 267AL.

THE REIGN OF

Chief Taka III

5AL - 19AL

Fifteen cycles after the wise leadership of Chief Taka III ushered forth the glow phenomenon within The Mainland, the recently formed Government announce what is now known as The First Wave of Confirmation. Seeking to spread the Universe’s gift, Taka and his ranks welcome colony leaders and their tribes to save themselves from barren living by assimilating with the Universe-guided.

THE REIGN OF

Chief Jojan III

101AL - 137AL

Following over 100 cycles of animosity between the new Mainland and the Colonies, Chief Jojan III dedicates his life to brokering trade deals between The Mainland and The Colonies. His good work culminates in The Second Wave of Confirmation through a peace deal with Tribe leaders, offering housing and jobs to all transitioning Korainians as a show of good will.

THE REIGN OF

Chief Jojan V

169AL - 181AL

After cycles of peace and growth in The Mainland, Chief Jojan V and his ranks graciously announce The Third and Final Wave of Confirmation, giving a last opportunity for colony settlers to transition into The Mainland with Government support and housing in the newly distinguished Mid and Lower Regions.

THE REIGN OF

Chief Wen

182AL - 200AL

Chief Wen’s first decree announces the decision to cut ties with the Colony Outlands. In the cycles following, guidelines are set. Assistance in the conception of colony settlers is provided through Government-sponsored Universe-guidance initiatives; on the condition that every colony-born individual is given a chance to join The Mainland by way of compulsory initiation on their fifteenth birth-day.

Life on Uji within

The Mainland

Long ago, the initial inhabitants of Uji may have elected a Tribe Tribunal. However it was a maverick group of Whitescales that first ventured out of the settlers camps to cultivate true society. As time stretched onwards, the new settlement grew in prevalence; eventually returning to broker peace in the Battle for Uji, and becoming the chosen authority in the land.

The leader of that maverick group was none other than Ino Taka, the eventual first chief of what would become The Mainland. Amidst the challenges of The Barren Times, it was the wise leadership inspired by Chief Taka's legacy that earned the gifting of the glow phenomenon; resulting in the spontaneous fertility of settlers within Mainland territory.

Interpreting The Universe's judgment, Chief Taka III followed in his grandfather's footsteps. He erected a Government around his ranks and issued them a simple task; safeguard the population of the territory through the Universe-guided enforcement of The Soulmate Law. Even after his passing, it is the instruction of the first chiefs, and the honour of every Chief thereafter, that continues to uphold the traditions of The Mainland into modern day.
By the time our story begins, The Government’s responsibilities are as numerous as stars in the night sky. Operating primarily from the ovoid-structured headquarters known simply as The Ovum, the Chief and their ranks issue orders and organise government-sponsored businesses, initiatives and programmes for the betterment of fellow Korainians.

Whether it’s maintaining hard-fought peace through its Law Enforcers, creating informative sources of entertainment, or of course the annual initiation of new-adults, The Government has a steady hand in the Universal guidance of every Mainlander inhabiting its territory.

Lora's Teashop

CITY KORAI, CENTRAL PLAZA
FROM IN THE WATER PART I:
As I looked up to the menu, I briefly wondered where the young Whitescale man could have gone; happily settling on the imagining of him loading more peach tea into the stockroom.
Situated just across the Central Plaza from The Clock Emporium, Lora’s Teashop becomes a regular stopover amidst Nykia’s daily routine; and you can’t blame her, the peach iced tea is delicious.

The Ovum

CITY KORAI
FROM IN THE WATER PART I:
Even my own Mother’s ravings had taught me of The Ovum Hall’s exclusivity; speaking of how its prestige was exactly what made The Maturity Ball such an event, and The Ovum Hall such a dazzling setting.
Ask any average Korainian and they’ll tell you; the heavily-secured operating headquarters of The Government of Uji’s Mainland is a big, glamorous, egg-shaped, mystery.

The Bowl

LOWER MID REGION, EAST SIDE OF UJI
FROM IN THE WATER PART I:
Unoriginal in its name, The Bowl was a mountainous waterfall where gently rushing water descended through a rocky funnel-shaped chasm, and poured out into a wide pool; almost as if liquid pouring itself into a bowl.
Another of Nykia’s regular haunts, the Lower Mid Region gathering place is almost always crawling with young stargazing Korainians.
