Naomi Nykia is the younger sister of Nykia’s father, Kwaku Nykia; and after tragically losing him to his work researching diseases in The Colony Outlands, she began to question The Universe. By the time of Nykia’s 15th birth-day, that tragedy seems cycles in the past. It takes a village to raise a Korainian, and this Aunt and Uncle pair are never too far away to extend some much needed advice to the new-adult within their guardianship.

I had grown up with Della, watched Dora turn adult, and I even remembered Daya’s first steps. The Trist’s were like family to me, and I to them. I didn’t at all share the beliefs that suggested they were less than simply due to their scale, and it was important to me they knew as such.
The Trist family is packed to the brim with opinionated individuals. From little trend-chasing Daya, to the stern second-oldest Dora, and not forgetting the witty newly-expecting Dena, neither Della nor her oldest-friend Nykia are ever short of sisterly interference. Add to that a father (Thom) famed over the Mid-Region for his signature chocolate-hazelnut vanilla strawberry loaf, and a mother (Juli) well known for her past as a formidable Law-maker, and you have a household chock-full of laughs and drama.

"Hello!" Mr. Umi cheered, as he answered the door and waved us inside. "Nykia! It’s good to see you," he smiled, presenting his hand to me. […] "Malaika, your daughter is a true delight," Teo’s mother said to my own, placing a hand on my arm whilst she smiled my way.
The Umi’s, Lynette and Jaynan, are the perfect tribestory depiction of The Soulmate Law. Their only son being the product of their Universe-guided love, they’re more than willing to assist him in achieving everything they believe he deserves.

My eyes widened in horror as I beheld Tedi’s parents, strutting down the walkway in their green and cream colour-coded attire, strolling towards our carriage. I spun to face Tedi in a panic. "Your… parents are coming?" I breathed at him; "But they’re not even invited!"
Some say opposites attract, which undoubtedly applies to Simony and Marten Kedar. The Mrs, straight-backed, well-groomed, socially-conscious. The Mr, short, plump and a passionate Records Keeper. Nevertheless, the two love their family dearly and wholeheartedly believe in The Universe-ordained plan they’ve set out for their obedient son.
The Leifssan Household

"It’s more than exciting, Nykia!" Della hissed. "It’s obviously fate! [...] I knew I’d seen a jawline like his before - like - down to the ear-to-chin ratio. Then it came over me, like a shooting star, and I finally remembered! Jawline, plus three-floor city house, equals Denton Leifssan! [...] There’s no way I could have planned this! I knew Denton had a brother in our birth-group - but I could have never guessed!"
Though Nykia is oblivious, Della’s aware. Not only are the Leifssan brothers rich beyond their wildest imaginings, but the stars have blessed them with sculpted forms anyone would gleefully drown to embrace. In the end, it’ll be up to our new-women to decide if Jonah and Denton Leifssan cause more trouble than they’re worth.

"And this," Teo started again, placing a hand on the colony girl’s shoulder; "is Thaya Mashou. She’s a new-adult from The Colony Outlands, staying in City Korai with relatives."
I twisted my lips at Teo’s inexplicably friendly grip on the girl's shoulder, before moving my suspicious peer to the girl herself. "We’ve… met…" I said slowly, eying her all the while.
Thaya Mashou once aligned herself with The Colonies, but things changed on her 15th birth-day. After her brief introduction to pageantry, lightworks and jet-powered waterbeds, Thaya had firmly joined team Mainland. Let’s just hope - for everyone else’s sake - nothing get’s in the way of her tribestory ending.

"I’m Lukhas," he said, his tone cheery as he introduced himself. "I enjoy fishing, and food, and I’m at The Base because they killed my kin. That’s brothers, Father, Mother, an Uncle and an Auntie. And, of course, the only girl I ever loved."
A plain-speaking, what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of guy; that just happens to have an all-consuming vendetta against the Korainians that tried to kill him.
Phellix
LEADER, THE BASE

He was large, the Whitescale man that spoke, and wore the physical manifestation of cycles of conflict around his eyes. They called him Phellix, and he was the reason I was here.
The large-statured Whitescale and leader of The Base has much to say. However he’s got to be careful about what he reveals, and when he reveals it.
Clarah
LEADER, THE BASE

"You know we try and stay away from terms like that," Clarah cautioned, my head turning back as she raised her hand to the other woman. "Remember, we can’t state anything as fact. You know it’s important we keep an open mind."
Despite her small frame and measured tenor, Clarah is a woman to be reckoned with. As long as she’s around, no Korainian, not even Phellix, is getting away with anything that might endanger The Base.
