DEFINING artists

Pre-debut branding.

MANY TO ONE

Upon meeting the music collective, the first characteristic I noted was their vibrancy. I immediately understood whatever I designed for them needed to capture their dynamic energy. At first they had entitled their collective New Age or Nu age; however, after suggestion from myself with SEO and ease of discovery in mind, the group consented to rename themselves as Nonage.

The Old-French derived word is defined as ‘the period of a person’s immaturity or youth’. Given the group’s rambunctious nature, I found the term perfectly befitting.

Developing microbrands

Multiple voices, one holistic collective.

MIXING microbrands

Over the course of several weeks, I worked with each artist to gain an appreciation for their musical styles. I worked towards developing something distinct for each collective member, whilst keeping in mind the designs would inevitably appear alongside one another.

Embelishing audio

As part of my work with the collective, I developed a handful of 'audio visuals'. As exhibited below, the motion graphic is designed to add flourishes to the existing audio; and even in some cases lend deeper meaning to the context of the lyrics within a song.

accoutrements

In addition to the designs of promotionals, cover arts and audio visuals, I also developed and helped source merchandise (stickers, branded bags, etc.) as well as offered the clients mock-up support for translation to various streaming platforms.

A REWARDING Conclusion

Working with the collective was challenging, but nevertheless ultimately a rewarding experience. The time pressures of their debut introduced a dynamic that placed expectancy on my capability to facilitate edits and designs with quick turnaround; helpful training for endeavours I have since embarked on. Majority of the collective members retain their original brand as developed by myself years later, a flattering feat given how prone modern-day artists are to repetitive rebrands.
